Offline Engineering Tuitions- Do they have a future?
\
Engineering in India at the undergraduate level is one of the most sought after discipline of education. Availability of over 20 lakhs seats in the country offered by over 4000 engineering colleges spread across the country, undoubtedly, confirms the high demand of the course vis-à-vis conventional courses like B.sc, B.A, Chartered Accountancy, Company Secretary, MBBS, Dental, etc. However, the Indian higher education space is facing a significant crunch of qualified faculty who are experienced enough to impact good quality learning. This has resulted in poor placements particularly for colleges which are in the lower-rung.
Unavailability of quality faculties has opened room for starting tuitions for engineering. There are several corporates who have ventured in offline engineering tuitions to provide hands on learning to the student. Also, there are several corporates who have used internet as a medium to adapt to learning and have started to provide online engineering tuitions to the students.
While both mode of teaching is equally important for a student, following are some of the pros and cons of offline engineering tuitions.
Pros and Cons:
Pros:
In offline engineering tuitions student has an option to understand and clear the concept after having a one-to-one discussion with the faculty
In offline engineering tuitions Student also have a higher edge to perform practical experiment if required with the availability of necessary infrastructure. This is limited when it comes to online mode of learning.
Cons:
In offline engineering tuitions student don’t have the flexibility to review the chapters later or attend the lecture later which is possible in case of online
Option of forum, group discussion is limited as the number of students available in the centre can only form a part of the same. In online mode of tutoring, students get a chance to interact with students from different walks of life, different geographic locations. This certainly helps in networking and boosting confidence.
With the given pros and cons, it is now pretty evident that offline engineering tuitions have higher edge in several forms but the increasing demand of online engineering tuitions can never be neglected.
Further, the advent of massive open online courses from institutes across the world has resulted in hearing competition. The Massive Open Online courses also known as MOOCs are providing robust learning facilities and are gaining huge popularity among the students. It is expected that as the internet penetration increases, there will be a significant shift of students from offline engineering tuitions to online engineering tuitions. Further, availability of free certification provided by some of the top colleges globally has added feathers to the success of online engineering tuitions. Students are not becoming aware about the return on investment and are thus becoming very selective when it comes to choose a tuition course.
To conclude we can say that the engineering tuitions segment is expected to witness tremendous competition going forward. Rising internet penetration, awareness about the importance of quality education, availability of skill development, brand awareness, return on investment and placements are some of the factors which will play a significant role in growth of tuitions.
